W E L C O M E !

PTF welcomes you to our 2008-2009 school year! We are so thankful that our Heavenly Father has made you a part of our WCCA family, and we look forward to the wonderful year He has planned for us.

This handbook will provide you with an overview of PTF activities and projects at WCCA.  We have been blessed year after year with very supportive and giving parents, and our prayer is that your family will receive a blessing from your faithful service to the Lord through your participation in many of this year’s activities!

PTF Meetings

The Executive Committee (i.e. the “voting arm”) meets every other month to review the budget, oversee projects and programs, and set the agenda for the following general business meeting.  Committee chairs (i.e. “Board of Directors”) are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

General business meetings, which are open to all school parents, teachers and staff, are held every other month beginning at 3:15 p.m. in the school library.  Childcare is provided by PTF through WCCA’s after school program.

If there are any activities you would like to see happen, please come to a general business meeting or let one of our officers or chairs know.  We really want to encourage parents and teachers alike to participate.  Look to the Weekly Update and the school website for reminders and important dates about PTF activities.

PTF Activities

Lunch Program

The lunch program is probably one of our most visible programs on campus and certainly one that is appreciated by parents, staff and students alike. Our two paid coordinators and their staff of parent volunteers, provide lunch to the students and staff every day of the week.

We have an official Lunchroom Brochure available which will address all questions regarding how our program works.  You should have received this brochure  in your summer packet.

Parent Participation Program (PPP)

PTF designed this program to offer families a variety of areas to fulfill their service commitment at WCCA.  All families, regardless of marital status, are asked to work a minimum of 30 hours during the school year.  PPP volunteer logs are available each quarter so parents can record the number of hours and areas of service, and must be submitted to the Bookkeeper to receive a "credit" which can be rolled-over or refunded to your account at the end of each year.  Only one log form is needed per family (not one per child) per quarter.

To ensure you receive credit for your hours worked, please do not give your child or his teacher the completed PPP log to turn into the office.  We have found from experience that it is best for you to hand-carry your form to the bookkeeper’s office or to mail it to the school, attention bookkeeper.  The PPP logs are due on the Wednesday following the end of each quarter.  At any time, you may view your recorded hours in the PPP log binder that is kept in the bookkeeper’s office.  An updated list of recorded hours worked will be available 2 weeks after each due date for PPP logs.

Room Parent Coordination

Room parents are the PTF’s first-line of volunteers.   Many teachers begin recruiting their room parent at the August Back-to-School night, so please speak up if you’d like to serve!  WCCA’s room parent coordinator ensures that all teachers find a room parent, passes along teacher information to room parents, and coordinates the needs of PTF-sponsored activities.  All room parents or anyone interested in being a room parent are encouraged to attend the Room Parent Orientation after school starts.  We welcome your suggestions and help in trying to improve our communication to parents.

Emergency Response

PTF supports WCCA’s emergency plan to handle disasters like earthquakes and man-made tragedies.  According to the Association of Bay Area Governments, up to 12 times more roads and highways are estimated to be closed following future major Bay Area earthquakes than occurred in either the Loma Prieta or Northridge earthquakes (up to 1,600 closures).  In addition, recent terrorist bombings have reinforced their concern of roads and highways being closed or traffic slowed due to disasters.  WCCA is prepared to ride out such disasters and care for the students until they can be picked up.  The school administration conducts fire and earthquake drills, as well as intruder and chemical alerts.  All teachers and staff have received certified CPR and first-aid training.

Although PTF does not maintain a formal Emergency Response committee, we budget money each year to restock the supplies in the Emergency Backpacks in each classroom.  PTF maintains the emergency supplies kept in a storage container behind the gym as well.  The emergency supplies include drinking water, blankets, medical supplies, and student emergency forms. We also have added enough MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) to supply food for everyone for 2 days (if necessary).  We have several Yerts (expandable tents) and portable toilets in the event of severe emergency.

Local phone lines may be out of service after a major disaster. However, out-of-state phone lines usually work.  If you are unable to reach the school, you may call the Albany Christian School in Oregon at (541) 928-1110.  WCCA administration will update them with information on the school’s condition.

Moms In Touch

This is a group of moms that meet at school every Friday at 8:30 a.m. for approximately one hour for the specific purpose of praying for our children, the staff, and the school.   There is also a group that meets in the evenings to accommodate the schedules of working moms.  If you would like to participate (grandmothers or aunts are also welcome!), have any questions, or have a prayer request to pass on to them, please contact Belinda Majors.

Fellowships

Our All-School Fellowships have provided fantastic opportunities for our WCCA families to meet throughout the school year.  Our Fellowship slogan, "...encourage one another and build each other up. -- I Thes. 5:11,” promotes the goal of this committee! We are looking forward to continued fellowship time this year and hope to be adding some new twists to our traditional events.  Please watch your Weekly Update for more information!

Parents Only “Back to School Breakfast”

Going back to school isn’t just for the kids - it’s an adjustment for parents too!  That’s why we host this free event the first week of school.  We encourage all parents to attend, but we especially want to welcome our “newest parents” to WCCA!  This is a great time to find out more about PTF, as well as get the chance to fellowship with other WCCA parents.

Operation Christmas Child

One of our most popular service projects, Operation Christmas Child is an international effort sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse.  WCCA students and their families are encouraged to follow some guidelines and fill a shoebox with necessities and goodies for a specific age girl or boy of their choice.  The shoeboxes are then shipped to Samaritan’s Purse which ensures that less fortunate children all over the world receive a special gift for Christmas.

Grandparent’s Brunch

Each year PTF hosts a Grandparent’s brunch to allow grandparents an opportunity to visit WCCA by invitation.  This is our way of expressing to them our thanks and appreciation for their involvement and support!  We provide a brunch, entertainment by our students, and a tour of the campus.  As a highlight, Grandpa and Grandma get to visit their grandchild’s class. Based on past response, we’re not sure who gets more excited about the visit, the grandparents or the grandkids!

Teacher Appreciation Day

While we encourage you to let your child's teachers know how much they're appreciated throughout the year, PTF has designated an "official" day as Teacher Appreciation Day.  On this day, PTF provides the teachers with a monetary gift and a catered lunch and we encourage the students to appreciate their teacher with a thank you note, drawing, poem, etc.
